Tattoo history, marking of areas, degrees, ranks by isolated tribes in the world

The term "Tattoo" is taken from the word "Tatau" in the Tahitian language, which means "to signify something". Rajah or tattoo (English: "tattoo"), is a mark made by inserting pigment into the skin. In technical terms, the tattoo is a micro pigment implantation. According to the Big Indonesian Dictionary, tattoo means a picture (painting) on a part (member) of the body. Tattoos can be made against human or animal skin.

Tattoos are a practice that is found almost everywhere with a function in accordance with local customs. Tattoos used to be often used by isolated tribes in a region of the world as a sign of territory, degree, rank, and even signify a person's health.

Tattoos are also widely used by Polynesians, the Philippines, Borneo, Mentawai, Africa, North America, South America, Mesoamerica, Europe, Japan, Cambodia, and China. Although in some circles, tattoos are considered a taboo, tattoo art remains something that is popular in the world. Tattoos on humans are a form of body modification, while tattoos on animals are generally used as identification. The existence of body tattoos in world culture has existed for a very long time and can be found in all corners of the world. According to history, it turns out that body tattoos have been done since 3000 years BC (before Christ). Tattoos were first recorded by Western civilization in the expedition of James Cook in 1769.

According to some researchers, the oldest tattoos were found on Egyptian mummies found around 1300 BC, and it is said that it is thought that tattoos were then spread to the tribes of the world, but it has not been proven true.

Tattoos are made as a symbol or marker, can give a certain pride to the owner and a symbol of courage from the owner of the tattoo. Since the first time tattoos are made also have this purpose. Tattoos are believed to be symbols of luck, social status, beauty, maturity, and self-esteem. In Borneo (Kalimantan), the indigenous women there consider that a tattoo is a symbol that shows special skills. Meanwhile in China, during the Ming Dynasty (approximately 350 years ago), women from the Drung Tribe made tattoos on their faces and buttocks as a sign of good descent.
In Indians, body painting and leather carving were done to beautify (as an aesthetic purpose) and show social status. And the Mentawai tribe views tattoos as sacred and serves as a symbol of the balance of nature which is the spirit of life. One of the positions of tattoos is to show identity and differences in social or professional status.

There are various ways of making tattoos, such as using animal bones as needles that can be found on the Eskimos, the Dayak tribe with orange tree thorns, and some are using hot copper to print dragon images on the skin as can be found in China. It's not that there is no pain in the process of getting a tattoo, pain is definitely experienced when getting a tattoo on the body, but because of the high value of the tattoo itself, and the self-esteem it brings, the pain is not considered a problem. There are various types and forms of tattoos, depending on what the tribes believe, and in each region generally have different perceptions about tattoos, although the principle is almost the same.

Until now, the art of tattoo creation is growing, especially supported by existing technology, so there are various options for those who want to make it. However, it is better if you want to make a tattoo, think about it carefully, especially the type of tattoo that is permanent, because removing it is not easy. Although currently there are many ways that can be done to remove tattoos using the latest technology, there are still no known side effects that occur on the skin, so think again carefully.
